Howard Edges Dunfee to Win MIGP

Quality Not Quantity

Steffen Howard skated only four events.  He received the full 1000 points in his first three events (Apostle Island, Chicago, and Rolling on the River) and finished with the lead pack in his final event (NSIM).  Howard received just seven more points than Kelin Dunfee in the final event, but that was enough to unseat the season long leader of the Minnesota Inline Grand Prix.  Congratulations to Steffen Howard.

Big movers this season include Chris Lomen, Travis Lambert, and Larry Kaufman.  Great job guys.

The MIGP is just one measure of a skater’s success and can at times be a bit misleading.   For example, there are two top 10 skaters that skated the same race four times.  Four out of four times skater A finished ahead of skater B.  But skater B skated more than four events, and in one of those event scored high enough to replace one of his previous four times.  That one score was enough to make up the deficit in the prior four events.  So even though skater B lost to skater A in all four head to head match-ups, skater B has the higher point total.

Skaters have two weeks from the date results are posted to raise any issues, otherwise results are deemed official.  NSIM results still contain inaccuracies, part of that is related to their failure to provide timing chips to all skaters.

Give ice a shot.

Top 26 – 50

You were close Rowdy, just a few seconds or places in any event would have placed you in the top 25. Use that as motivation on the ice and for next season.  Ty Fidler, teammate Bill Numerick, and the future Dr. Dyrud would have easily made the Top 25 if they had completed one more event.

At certain times of the season, skaters having completed only one event (and not having enough races left to complete the requisite four races) were dropped from the rankings.  As a result the bottom portion of the results should not be deemed particularly reliable.  Competing in more events will ensure that you are included in the rankings.
