2012 Grand Old Day Race Report

Starting the 8k dash

It was another great summer morning and a nice start to the outdoor skating season this year for the ‘Grand Old Day 8k on the Go’ Sunday morning.  A solid crowd of 82 skaters turned out for the event, with an exciting mad streak to the finish.

No repeat for Matt Meyer (last year’s winner); however, his teammate, David Sarmiento of Adam’s Inline, took first place in a close battle about two strides ahead of Andy Kostka (Hoigaards) and Brent Bovitz (TWINCAM), with Mike Anderson rolling in just behind.  The winning time was 13:42, which is nearly 22 mph.

Gary Johnson (TWINCAM), Ron Marfori (TWINCAM) and Matt Meyer (Adam’s Inline) rounded out the leaderboard.

Rayna Meyer (Max Muscle) took first for the women – even after putting in an extra mile or two after missing a turn (here is a link to the Baxter Inline Marathon course for next week).
