I’ve just joined the St. Paul Greenway committee and need your help and support. Please sign this online vision statement as a first step to show your approval for a continuation of this great recreational trail!

Pass on the word to your friends and family.

Click here to sign on to the vision!

I) VISION General / Purpose
We envision a permanent green urban non-motorized trail accessible to all for bike-walk and rolling mobility. This trail will be fully ADA compliant and will:
• Create a strong regional link in the sustainable transportation network, and connect with other communities in the Twin Cities
• Provide a clean, green urban corridor without generation of air or noise pollution and use of fossil fuel,
providing a clean human environment that accommodates healthy aerobic mobility.
• Contribute to and promote our community’s health and well-being, energy and environment.
• Create a through right-of-way for walk, bike and handicapped mobility that will accommodate the long standing and increasing need for human access and mobility through important sections of Saint Paul, and remove the impediment to that access.
• Serve as a model-standard of transportation design for walk, bike and handicapped mobility.
• Design and build a structure for walk/bike that is based upon the design standards of the Midtown Greenway in Minneapolis, and will function fully as a part of a future regional “Super Highway” system for bike/walk modeled after the bike walk Superhighway in Copenhagen, Denmark.
• Change the paradigm of “bike path” “pathway” to establish a standard of design equivalency for bike/walk to that of standards of design for motor vehicles; to create a parkway-highway for bike/walk equivalent to all motor vehicle function in the Ayd Mill corridor and everywhere else. If there is a “highway” function or corridor for motor vehicles, build a highway - greenway for walk/bike.
• Encourage and accommodate our communities to prosper and participate in the health and wellbeing of a sustainable transportation network.

The St. Paul Greenway will feature:
• All-season - 24/7, fast, safe, and pleasant walking, biking and rolling (including wheelchair)
• Healthy sustainable green spaces, native growth and rain gardens.
• Opportunities for plazas and public art.
• Greenway borders that offer access, safety, economic opportunities and new public parks.

II) VISION Specific Design
1. The Greenway Trail will be designed to parkway-boulevard-highway standards (Striped lane width, reaction space, etc.) of 20 to 24 feet of right-of-way with 16 to 20 feet clear (narrow bridges and other areas mitigated), from the city limits on the west through the Canadian Pacific corridor traversing east and then south through the Ayd Mill corridor and;
2. The Greenway will be striped with separate walk and bike lanes within the 16 to 20 feet clear of 20 to 24 feet ROW(right-of-way) and;
3. The Greenway will be well lighted at night, plowed and maintained as needed in winter, and have emergency call boxes and;
4. The Greenway will be designed to drain well with swage edge on the sides or some other feature, and where feasible supply rain gardens.
5. The Greenway will support and encourage the development of a bridge connection across the Mississippi River to connect directly to the Midtown Greenway in Minneapolis.

III) VISION All
We quote the Midtown Greenway Coalition and in the same words reaffirm:
“Together we will create a Greenway that improves our lives, our neighborhoods, our region, and the planet.”

Think about adding this series to your race schedule next year. The races are every other week through the summer and have a mix of short and medium length races. Great speed training for marathon and half marathon training programs. There are also plenty of prize opportunities–raffles, primes during longer races (races within races) and nightly race winners and overal series winners.

This year’s series placements are as follows (Unofficial, I’m going by memory here)

Youth:
1st: Ryan Mullery
2nd: Keaton Moen
3rd: Cole Schulte

Fitness:
1st: Paul Engle
2nd: Ben Martin
3rd: Mike Koeplin

Women:
1st: Martha Flynn-Kauth
2nd: Melissa Dahms
3rd: Sarah Oftedahl

Advanced Men:
1st: Andrew Hanson
2nd: James Kauth

Leaders jerseys remain with Ryan Mullery (Juniors), Paul Engle (Fitness), Martha Flynn-Kauth (Women’s), Andrew Hanson (Advanced) and Danny Frederick keeps the Pro jersey–as there were not Pro racers tonight.

Tim Anderson, fresh from the Midwest Skate Club technique clinic this weekend, won the Fitness category. He had no problems with the oval corners, even though it was his first time racing there.
